Suriname is located in the Guiana Shield, a vast wilderness covering over 2.2 million square kilometers in South America and containing over 25% of the world’s rainforest. Southeastern Suriname provides an important biological corridor linking the Central Suriname Nature Reserve with adjacent protected areas and indigenous lands in neighboring countries, enabling the movement of plants and animals that is essential for their long-term persistence.
